Project Excelsior

Travelling to an altitude of 32 kilometres in a hot air balloon is an amazing feat of bravery.

Jumping out of that balloon and free-falling back to Earth, reaching speeds of over 900 km/h, could be considered the definition of madness.

Joe Kittinger still holds the record for the highest ever sky-dive. Even more remarkable, is the fact that this was his third attempt. His previous two jumps had been from 23 kilometres and 22 kilometres. 

In comparison, the cruising altitude of international aircraft is 12 kilometres.

Joe Kittinger’s jump never ceases to amaze and inspire me.
